In terms of the measure stage of a six sigma process what would be required for a process definition and metric definition ?
The process and metrics should have been defined in the previous phase. Before completing the Define stage, the process should have already been defined in the charter with a minimum metric definition of what measurement is being tracked and what constitutes a defect.
Never heard nor read the expression “I’m terms…”. I assume you are starting the measure phase, which means that you should have a project charter, SIPOC and VOC completed.
Now you need to understand your current state process, hence process mapping is your next step. The technique will depend on what you want to achieve.
I think you are referring to the OD. Operational Definition I.e, making a CTQ measurable in the Measure Phase. An operational definition, when applied to data collection, is a clear, concise detailed definition of a measure. The need for operational definitions is fundamental when collecting all types of data. It is particularly important when a decision is being made about whether something is correct or incorrect, or when a visual check is being made where there is room for confusion.
