MUSLIM LEAGUE
INRODUCTION:
The predication of sir syed soon proved to be a fact. The mulsims of india
were greatly disappointed by the anti-muslim stance of congress. The events following the partition of Bengal strengthened the desire of the muslims to organize themselves politically as a separate community. The birth of all india muslim league at dacca on 30th December 1906 came as an expression of that desire.
CAUSES:
ERUPTION OF A MUSLIM EDUCATED CLASS:
A new generation of muslim educated Aligarh or influence by the idea had come to the forefront. They were keen on securing an honorable place for their community in political sphere.
INDIFFERENT ATTITUDE OF CONGRESS TOWARDS MUSLIMS.
The all india national congress was a purley hindi body. Its interest was always antithetical to the muslim, by 1905, muslim leader were convinced that they must have their own party which should spread for their community on all important occasions.
TO SAVE THEIR ENTITY:
The old belief uttered by sir syed ahmed that the muslims were somehow a separate entity. The Muslims did not behave that Hindu and Muslims formed one nation. They were different by religion, history, civilization, traditions and culture, therefore it became essential for Muslim to establish a political organization or their own.
DIFFERENCE OF POLITICAL VIEWS:
The political views of Muslims were not in conformity with those of Hindus. The congress supported joint electorates where as the Muslim were staunch proponents of Separate electorate. This led Muslims to the establishment of Muslim league.
EDUCATIONAL AND ECONOMIC BACKWARDNESS:
Muslims and lagged for behind the Hindus in education and economics. Educational and economic condition could only be upgraded by establishing a separate Muslim organization.
THE EVOLUTION OF MINTO MORLEY REFORM:
Turning point came in the summer of 1906. During john morley’s budget speech in which he hinted of constitutional reforms, at that junction muslim did not have a political platform to demand their share. After all they wanted a separated political platform.
THE SUCCESS OF SIMLA DEPUTATION:
Minto offered fullest sympathy to muslim demands. The success of deputation compelled the Muslims to have a separate political association of their own.
FORMATION OF THE MUSLIM LEAGUE:
In December 1906, an annual session of Muhammad educational conference was held in decca as requested by nawab salim ullah. Almost all the muslim leaders stressed the need for a separate political organization of the muslim, nawav salimulla presented the outline of the proposed organization. a Resolution moved by him was approved by all present
and thus all india muslim league was established. Nawab waqar ul mulk, nawab salimullah, maluna Muhammad ali, hakim ajmal khan, maulana zafia ali khan played a vital role in the formation of muslim league,
OBJECTIVES OF MUSLIM LEAGUE:
To creat among muslims the feelings of loyalty towards british government and to remove misconceptions and suspicious.To safeguard the political right of the muslims and to bring them into the notice of
the government.To prevent among muslims the rise of prejudicial feelings against the other communities of india.
The first formal meeting of all india muslijm league was held on December 29- 30,1907 at Karachi, syed ameer ali organized the branch of muslim league at London,
CRITICAL ANALYSIS:
There came into being a political body which was to play a decisive role in the destiny of the muslim nation. The day the muslim delegation won recognition of the demand of separate electorate, the course of the muslim freedom struggle was charted. It was the beginning of the growth of muslim national consciousness. It former visible institutional expression in the form of muslim league which after a 40 years struggle wa to achieve for the muslims the culmination of their national aspiration.
In the beginning all india muslim league was not a radical party and did not stand for any revolutionary change in india embarked on the task within the frame work of the given situation. Bu as the events an folded, muslim lkeague also changed its outlook and took up the task of political freedom for the muslims of india. By the end of the 3rd decade of the 20th
century, muslim league really became a mass movement of the muslims and succeeded in achieving Pakistan in 1947. Actually the new bred of leadership like Jinnah was instrumental in its metamorphosis.
After minto a acceptance of the demand of separate representation, it was ordinary common sense to have a political party to fight elections
Whatever may have been the effects of muslim league, but it made clear that the interest of muslims must be regarded completely separate from those of hidus, any fusion of both the communities in future was not possibly. It stressed the ship of muslim destiny dafely through the oscine of political chaos and turmoil to the safer harbor of Pakistan.
