It seems that nowadays more and more people are striving to get a job in the Government Department. One way to do that is to pass the Civil Service exam called CSS. CSS is the most competitive and prestigious exam in Pakistan. Even so that every Pakistani, at some point in his life, have dreamt about passing this test and becoming a bureaucrat. Although it is harmless to dream, it is pretty much impossible for ‘everyone’ to pass this exam. It is not just a test; it is a whole process. There are so many variables.
According to an FPSC report of 2016, 20,717 candidates applied to appear in the exam, only 12,176 appeared and among those only 379 passed the test. Hundreds and thousands of candidates, despite their hard work and efforts, fail in the first attempt. Why is that? Well, in order to do well on your test, simple hard work and preparation won’t help. 1- Concentrate on your English
English exam of CSS is the most underestimated and understudied exam. You may consider yourself very good at speaking or writing English but you would never truly know once you have taken the exam. English Composition, Essay, and Précis take extra effort and practice.
2- Prepare the Past Papers
Preparing the past paper does not mean that you will pass the exam but it will definitely help you get some perspective and it might give you some idea how to prepare for the test.
3- Practice Writing
Many candidates ignore the writing exam entirely while being under the impression that they are already good at it. Do not underestimate any exam and practice as much as possible.
4- Current Affairs
Besides a good knowledge of history, you also need to be aware of the happenings of the world. Read the Newspapers, watch talk shows be actively participating in the group discussions will help get the gist of affairs of the world.
5- Optional subjects
If you choose the optional subject considering that it may get you more marks than the others, that may backfire. But if you select a subject based on your interest, there are better chances of success.
6- Time Management
Time management is the key factor of success in the entire life. In case of CSS practicing it while keeping a track of time and managing your activities in accordance with it will definitely prove to be helpful.
